Thoughts on Genesis .. 55 in 55

So one of the things ont he 55 in 55 list is to read throught he Bible again... I actually haven't done the reading.. more the audio version while I knit, crochet or cross stitch... anyhow..

  We ALL know the stories in Genesis... Adam and Eve... Noah... Abraham .. Issac.. Jacob.. Joseph...

   Adam and Eve did what humans do...... they sinned.... Noah got drunk and his sons had to cover up his body cause he was naked.... Abraham told folks his wife was his siter... not once but twice... AND after getting her maid prnant thought it was perfectly OK to send his son out int he desert  to die... Don't get me started on Sarah who first laughed at God and then was the one doing the the child tossing...I ssac pretty much did the same thing his father did except he and his wife played favorites with their  children  , if it had been in modern times I am sure they both would be on a shrinks couch... and his wife... whoa... " go lie to your dad and I'll take care of the mess"...

   Jacob played favorites also although with 2 wives and their maids and raisng all those children must have been exhausting...  andhow about those boys he raised?  Nothing like some sibling rivalry to sell your brother as a slave....

            Yeah, all that is bad....but here is the thing I took away....... God uses sinners... cause that's what we humans do... we hurt each other, we are self motivated.... prideful...

           GOD KNOWS OUR HEARTS

..and he still loves us and uses us...

Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15:6

Apparently good works are not a prerequiste ....I continually thank God for His grace....

This Has Been a week.............

 But I am grateful for all the things I was able to do, and the energy to do!

Tuesday C did a ride along with our son the LEO, and as usual they enjoyed the time together. I went to a funeral for a man our church had been praying for over a year now who had cancer. His sisters all come to our gathering and it was good to give them a hug and let them know we were there for them. The pastor reminded us it is never to late to tell Jesus you  are sorry and thankful for his forgiveness...

  Wednesday we had friends over for lunch. I roasted a pork loin with a teriaky marinade and served on rolls with a side of Napa salad and pasta salad.

Napa Salad (allrecipes)

• 1 head napa cabbage
• 1 bunch minced green onions
• 1/3 cup butter
• 1 (3 ounce) package ramen noodles, broken
• 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
• 1 cup slivered almonds
• 1/4 cup cider vinegar
• 3/4 cup vegetable oil
• 1/2 cup white sugar
• 2 tablespoons soy sauce

Directions

1. Finely shred the head of cabbage; do not chop. Combine the green onions and cabbage in a large bowl, cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
3. Make the crunchies: Melt the butter in a pot. Mix the ramen noodles, sesame seeds and almonds into the pot with the melted butter. Spoon the mixture onto a baking sheet and bake the crunchies in the preheated 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) oven, turning often to make sure they do not burn. When they are browned remove them from the oven.
4. Make the dressing: In a small saucepan, heat vinegar, oil, sugar, and soy sauce. Bring the mixture to a boil, let boil for 1 minute. Remove the pan from heat and let cool.
5. Combine dressing, crunchies, and cabbage immediately before serving. Serve right away or the crunchies will get soggy...

  Wednesday night we joined friends to talk about some very very specical plans....:)

Thursday we finally were able to have dinner to clelbrate Jamie's birthday...he's 31 now... and as always busy doing interesting things... but it was good seeing he and Emily, even if it were just for a bit... and a huge thank you to my inlaws for hosting the dinner....

Friday was so much fun... we were able to sneak out of work a bit early so Chris could do  this........

Oh yes,  awedding ceremony... for our friends Tim and Stephanie... it was very casual ( you can tell)

and the wedding party looked great in angry Birds t shirts ( a first in Chris's ceremony book)... but oh so much fun! Lots of laughs , very relaxed and did I mention Stephanie's dad and mom are caterers... oh Honey ! The food was delicious!

we are so happy for them , one of those couple that just fit well togather...

The last two days at the market have kept us busy along with garden work when we came home. Too tired to cook much for dinner we ahve microwaved corn on the cob in the microwave for about 5 minutes and topped with butter and taco seasoning.... good stuff.... we are always thankful when produce starts making its way into our kitchen.

Feb 3rd, 2011`

 This morning we had the privledge of going to Chris's old alma mater Southeastern college and Seminary in Wake Forest , NC. We have such good memories there as do our boys.  They have Chapel twice a week and Chris was anxious to hear Al Mohler, President of Southern Seminary. We were not disappointed! His sermon was on John chapter 9 " I was blind but now I see"... such a definition of the gospel message.

The temps had dropped 10 degrees while we were in Chapel.... a far cry form the warm day we had yesterday.

..By the time we got home it was much colder... even Cubbs was trying to find somewhere warm.

Cute huh???

 after a deep clean of the bedroom this afternoon and supper fixed, dishes put away.... I'm ready to settle in to a night of crochet....I am in the mood to do something quick.. so Miss Lucy wins with her adorable bobbles.
