The Needle in a Haystack

The hotel @ Natural Bridge Va was offering a wonderful fall pkg deal.  89.00 for a night at the hotel ( and lovely it was), breakfast, passes to the sights... it was just what is needed as a little get away... We went with my inlaws and they are fabulous travel partners.   Here are just a few pictures taken on our hike this morning...

I think the full impact for all of us was walking under the bridge and looking up... amazing!

 Chris did most of the picture taking and I think the above picture is beautiful!

We spent quite awhile watching this graceful blue heron

These falls were at the end of the trail.

An Adventure

Taylor mentioned he wanted a bit of adventure......with the beautiful fall weather hitting the Carolinas we were more then happy to oblige him!  A hike to an old cemetary and then a dinner picnic to one of our favorite spots on the lake fit the bill perfectly!

  Taylor and I planned the menu and opted for pigs in a blanket and this awesome recipe by Pioneer Woman

We all went and explored little areas on our own... enjoying the water, rocks, mussels, birds and trees

Chris has been perfecting some photography skills and captured this one of the lake

 It was a lovely day, one of those that bears repeating..........

Mountain to the Sea Trail Section 11

My friend Bonnie, her son Caleb and I hiked a chunk of the Mountain to the Sea Trail today.  we met a little before 11:00 o clock and walked out around 3:30...it was a lot of fun.  Bonnie is very knowledgeable of the local flora and fauna and we spent a bit of the time discussing plants, trees, birds, mushrooms & insects.

  We hiked  on section 11 which sets in right off Hwy 50 past the Falls Lake  Bridge.  Here is Bonnie and Caleb by the Falls Lake Sign... the wonderful hiking sticks we used were carved by Caleb.

  Found a few elves living in a hollow tree.... no cookies came out  the other side though!

  We stopped at a pretty cove for lunch

  I found a nice bit of log to watch the rock skipping going on

  I never have been able to skip a rock but Caleb and Bonnie did quite well..

  the trail took us by the Rockview Marina

We spent a bit of time watching a listening to a mystery bird eat dogwood berries.

  The weather was absolutely perfect... the company superb.... can't wait ( although my feet can) to do it again and log some more trails
