Most of our week was consumed with this fella
You may take a moment and admire him...I'll wait..........
So Jacob Merritt made his way into the world at 8lbs 9 oz and a whooping 22 inches long... and yes... he needs a haircut.... I am loving this little fella to bits.
I arrived home on Friday after helping the new mama and daddy and getting in snuggles, just in time to pack for our weekend getaway in Richmond Va.
First up was a tour of the Petersburg Battlefield. This picture is a trail.... blazed with yellow, and some times red.... it was very nice and hot... and we really should have read up on the battlefield trails... as we walked around zigging and zagging.. the trail said .5 miles...but we weren't ending back at the trail head... ahem... 2 1/2 miles later, I am sure it was all up hill in 90 degree heat we got to the car... drank water like a camel and cranked the a.c. I guess our hiking skills are a bit rusty!
But we were happy to be at the Crater in Petersburg for the 151 anniversary of that battle where reenactors gave a 21 gun salute and played taps... very moving...
Then it was to our favorite, Hampton Inn for dinner and a swim.. no trouble sleeping that night.. we were TIRED!
We woke up early , had breakfast and headed in to Richmond for a very informative 2 hour trolley tour of the city
we really do like Richmond. This tour was not really one to spend time seeing things, but an overview, which is what we wanted, because we plan to spend a few day trips back to Richmond to see some other things in depth.
A delicious lunch at River City diner... and then a quick walk to look at the train station.
Built in 1901, the building is still used today. It is well maintained on the inside with marble and wood, and glass.... Beautiful... but eeriee ... creepy almost... it was deserted save for the ticket master and the cleaning lady, a homeless fella washing his clothes in a water fountain...and us... it makes the old photos of folks seem to stare at you so intensely... but yet... you wanted to feel the marble... touch the wood... very interesting.
Back at the car, we headed south to meet up with Christopher and Vika for a milkshake before heading home...
I loved this past week, its the sort of thing you file away for when you are having a bad week... so you can remember the good...
I did manage to finish a crochet project
