After lunch I dropped Mom off at bridge club and headed out to tour Wescott House in downtown Springfield.
.. Like hiding the front door in an out of the way spot
I was not able to photograph the inside of the house but as much as I am not a fan of the outside of a Wright House, I am drawn to the inside. Earth colors and textures, including a plaster dyed wax treatment on the walls called encaustic . A place for everything and everything in its place. A Wright leaves no room for clutter. The Wright designed furniture was all in mission style... Chris is a HUGE fan of mission style furniture and I was so sad he could not join me in the tour.
Even the colonnade from the house to the barn followed the horizontal lines of the structure.
I grew up in Springfield. While I always KNEW there was a Frank Lloyd Wright house in town, no one really restored or acknowledged the house until the early 2000s. I am so glad they did. The art and history combined make this a landmark to be treasured.
If you are in the area, I suggest at least a drive by. It doesn't disappoint..
