Our flock is gone.... all of them... we had thought we had secured the chicken coop OK.. but some varmit did a massacre in the coop... We were so sad.. I must admit I cried a bit seeing the dead birds.. and the birds we needed to put down because they were so wounded. We decided against getting some layers again until next spring... and the coop will get a complete redo including chicken wire below the foundation of the coop . A lesson learned...
The summer crops have been pulled and peas, beets & kale are in the ground.
Next week onions, spinach, carrots & radishes.... and of course... collards..
Its really hard to regroup after fighting off critters and bugs... etc... but that is how it is to raise your own food.
By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return." Genesis 3:19
On an up note, one of the dear vendors at work blessed us with a bushel of tomatoes that I was able to can. We were also blessed with sweet potatoes. Free food!
The herbs have been cut back and are drying... basil, mint, rosemary.
Next up will be apple season.....and the pumpkins are coming in so nicely as are the sweet potatoes... I love the fall, but really don't want to hurry the season I'm in.... time goes by so quickly...
Breathe... and have a fine day...all day long!
