...the youngest got his drivers license yesterday! Bittersweet moment to say the least... He's had his permit for quite some time but always said driving was a bad risk to reward ratio.... I couldn't agree more...however,it was time to move forward...and there you have it.... a couple years of panic and dread as he rides the roads until I get use to it.... The older boys use to laugh because even when they were off on their own if I saw a wreck on the news they would count down for the telephone call ...yep, that's the sort of worrisome mom I am... a wonder I don't have an ulcer...
I had a nice conversation with Lance's mom last night filling me in on the details for Lance Eakes Day. If you're in the Apex area Nov. 8th between 11-5 stop by the Lifestyle fitness parking lot for some great B-Bq, hug a hero, face painting, balloons, and much more. Proceeds go to Lance's Memorial fund and portions to the new USO opening in Fayetteville.
..We've had frost everyday this week it seems... the collards love it! The broccoli didn't seem to stand as well but at least there will be green stuff from the garden most of the winter.
When the boys were young I use to make up batches and batches of hot chocolate mix. They had a cup in the morning and in the evening... and if things got really cold then they had some in between. I got the original recipe from MIL but found the identical one @ Fresh Thoughts from the Laundry Room One batch lasts us the winter now~sigh~ one of those nostalgic things when you're in between your own children and the grands... you have to go out and search for children to share hot cocoa and cookies with...
Not sure if I shared this picture or not, but soon... very soon... I'll have a sweet little nephew to share cocoa with... This picture is of MIL, my SIL Leslie, my SIL Laura ( with the cute baby belly), and my niece Shelby We're a great looking bunch!
.. Today's agenda is basketball in Wake Forest.... I'll drop Christopher and Nicolas off and do my grocery shopping for the week.
This weekend will mean moving some compost to an area we really want to use as garden space... and getting those garlic sets in the ground... last night we discovered an area of the kitchen that needs a bit of attention so that might be on the list too...
...Remember when Halloween was all about watching Charlie Brown , dressing up in your moms old clothes and wondering if the rich folks down the block were giving candy bars out???
tonights menu is sloppy joes... Chris will be traveling back from VA and C& I will be late getting in so this will be easy to fix...
1lb hamburger ( brown and drain off the grease)
2T dehydrated onions
1T beef granules
1/2c ketchup or catsup ( did this ever confuse you???)
2T brown sugar
salt & pepper to taste
cook it up and serve it on buns or opened faced on sandwiches.
since I have a TON of potatoes we'll have oven fries.... slice, put on a cookie sheet, sprinkle with olive oil & barbeque spice nad cook for about 20 minutes or until potatoes are done..
we'll round it out with celery sticks ( yep, a few slathered with peanut butter) and carrots.
