The Day Oxford stood Still

This was just a taste of life without technology   Apparently two different cables were cut in two separate accidents that left 5 counties without cell phone, land lines and everything that goes with it down.  I pulled in to get a sandwich and hte debt machine wasn't working... no problem... I'll swing across the street to the ATM and while I'm doing that I'll use the cell phone to call Christopher to see if he needs anything... The ATM had a disgruntled man kicking the ATM that had eaten his debt card and didn't dispense cash...he was unable to call the number on the ATM for help... cause the cell phones were down.... No problem I thought... I'll buzz over to the bank after getting gas and just get gas... Getting gas was a no go as inserting the card was a bust... the pumps couldn't read the card...OK... enough gas to get to the bank and get back.... Into the bank I went with a long line of perplexed...and idle tellers... Fortunately the perk of small town living is the fact they were allowed to let me withdrawl a 50.00 cash limit  from my account... others were not so lucky .. their computer networks to the main branch... kaput...I drove back to get gas and pick up the food when I noticed the town of Oxford taking to the streets... tons of people with cell phones lifting them to the sky trying to get a signal... folks adjusting their blue tooths and turning their heads from side to side for a bit of static...

... It was a very scary realizing how utterly dependent we are  on technology... from now on there will be cash in my pocket...

.. I KNOW wha t the article says about the cables... but you know this military mom... I'm sure it was a conspiracy and none of this would have happened if the National Guard MP's were on American soil taking care of their own....

.... but of course I blame everything on the National Guard not being on American  soil... my new campaign...

So, carry some cash... pray for the troops... and have a fine Luddite day... all day long...

I had to look up Luddite, so your blog is expanding my vocabulary. Days without working technology sure makes one realize how dependent we are on it. Scary.
