Happy Birthday Martha

Katy ...This is a picture of my home church... the church I grew up in as a little girl.... filled with people who love me and pray for me.  People I have learned from and who have been there when I need them the most.... family.... It is nestled int he foothills of WV... a small mining community called Katy   I love this church.  I love the people...even as a grown woman when I go back for a visit I get the greatest sense of peace sitting in one of those pews.  I know the exact number of wooden slats in the pew in front of me... I know where to turn to smile at each person there..

......today one of the dearest and gentlest faces to smile at won't be there.  My dear Martha was called home to be with the Lord.

.. When my parents were new Christians, very young themselves with a new baby ( uh ...that would be me) Scott , the pastor of Katy, and his wife Martha took my parents under their wing.  They mentored, they prayed , they counseled, and most important in my eyes, they loved me.  Not only did they love me as a wee one, but they loved me as an adult, and to this day Scott will give me a good hard squeeze and say " how's my girl Lenny"...( I have no idea how the whole Lenny thing got started but he and Martha have ALWAYS called me that)..  I learned what it meant to raise 4 boys on a small income.... and how to handle your self like a godly woman in times of stress.   Martha was my measuring  stick... calm, even beautiful Martha. ( her children will rise up and call her blessed)

... Her heart was always with Jesus  while she was here on earth.. and today, today she meets her Saviour face to face.  It's Martha's birthday into eternal life.  Praise be to God for his excellent and mercifulness to us, sinners, saved only by His grace!  Happy Birthday Martha!!

........My sin-oh the bliss of this glorious tho't
My sin not in part, but the whole.
Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
O my soul
