Vacation Day 2

Our day was fine but clouded with thoughts and prayers for Connor Cummings.  His father was in my husbands Sunday School class at a church we served at a few years ago.  The family lives up the road.  Anyhow...2 yo Connor and his dog went missing about 6:30 Friday and with the community searching, they weren't found until about 9:00 Sat. night.  The poor thing survived a couple of thunder storms and down pours along with thick woods over night. You can read about it at WRAL

We are so thankful things worked out OK....

We mostly laid low, waiting for news, always ready to help , and getting phone updates through out the day.

I did manage to bake a batch of oatmeal cookies.....
...not to many left.......

Vacation Day 1

C finally finished the job in New Bern and before he starts his next big project, we have 17 days of vacation.  The game plan was to leave Sunday for the coast, but Josh is on stand-by for Baghdad and until we figure out what is going on, we're here.  Don't think  we're sad about being home bound this weekend... Just being together and knowing Dad won't be out of town any more is a great comfort. So... what did we do to celebrate our first day?
..We ate... I won't begin to tell you the scores of wrappers and bags from assorted treats that were consumed today!
Supper was grilled chicken breast with melted chipolte  cheddar on a sesame seed bun. Yum!!

AND  a Jeopardy  board game marathon.  Yep, probably 6 games using a game bought at a yard sale for 1.00  I love those kind of deals!  It gets so hot in the summer that the usual basketball neighborhood crowd can be found around out kitchen table playing Yatzee, Monopoly,  Jeopardy, Poker, Risk, and Life all I need to provide are cookies and Kool aid... a small price to pay  for knowing where my teen is!

So far I think Dad is winning in the running totals..Daniel is spending the night so he has taken my place.

My friend Bonnie made me laugh so hard! she posted the funniest list!  Sort of makes my Family Guy crime seem trivial~smile~

Holidays in July is going on over at the Ville  I have had so many goodies delivered to my mailbox... 3 clover soft hooks from MI, a camo 6 1/2 in. square for a afghan I am doing from Va, 2 beautiful Barbie's from  NY, and the cutest fairy shawl pin from AZ.  I sent a couple of elf packages out myself.

...As soon as the news is over we're off to bed... Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
..Enjoy those you love, pray for our soldiers.. and sleep tight...don't let the bed bugs bite!

I'm better now

Thanks for all the love today about my pouty post.  I am feeling much better. Christopher decided to stay home from Networks and give his body a bit of a rest.  We went and met friends for lunch and then went to the pool . There was a whole gaggle of friends for Christopher to hang out with and I spent an hour visiting some local thrifts and then visiting with a couple of moms.  It was relaxing.

..Only 2 more days until the New Bern job is over...I am beginning to count the hours!
...
...Josh got a call today from his commander to sign papers for a unit transfer..it wasn't a choice... 1132 is deploying and 3 slots need to be filled with MP's that haven't yet gone.  we should know more details within the week.  I am praying for miracles ....

......when I look at the events of my life, I'm not sure how I could wade through...without Jesus

Smackdown 2007

This post will make absolutely no sense to 99.9% of the folks reading it...and its probably well and good that is doesn't, but this is my voice and my writing and there are some days when I'm about ready to pop a cork.... today happens to be one of those days...

.....I grew up a conservative Christian, my church went through some growing pains while I was growing up, headcoverings, women in skirts, no movies, co-ed swimming, no celebration of Christmas because of the relationship to a pagan holiday... just strange little tiffs... The really odd thing was that the men of the church built a little wall to sit on and smoke before going into the building... I think even my beloved pastor ( who next to my husband I STILL consider my pastor), puffed a stoggie .

...But the over all focus after 50 years is grace...God's wonderful grace and loving each member of the church as a brother or sister with that grace.  The headcoverings are gone, there are little Christmas programs.  The good parts like family worship have remained and young men and women are mentored by the church as a whole.

Service is not disrupted and the prayer chain started if a Pokemon card is brought to church or some unsuspecting child is clutching a tellytubby..

.......That's my background... not that its all rosy.. sure they have a few quirks... but the church is solid... people coming in... and only leaving by way of heaven. Same pastor for years.....like 47years and Marvin, who both C and I like alot  is carrying the torch.  The problem is, this church is in WV... we're in Nc

.. So we live here in NC, loving the Lord, loving our family.... and for some reason.... at every turn we are getting "chastised" for the way we live.  I  am so tired of folks  thinking we are the spawn of satan because my child watches Family Guy... ( i need to add he is a teen)... he doesn't cuss, run around, drink, he stands up for what he believes...  but he does watch Family Guy... ( this is just an example)... so folks in the Christian world feel the need to come across that their family is far better then ours because my 16yo watches family guy....AND I allowed my olders to date...instead of court... AND the clincher... I am a woman with an agenda because my husband works out of town and I can't focus my attention on being home and raising my children ( which I BTW have already done)... BUT I must not be a very good mom because I only had 4 children and if I had more then I wouldn't care about man stuff... like basketball...

......If anyone  reading this is not a Christian and you have been hurt  by folks judging you ... I apologize for words that might have made you hurt.... Let me say your soul can find rest in God alone, with a peace and focus on HIM and his lead.  We are all sinners.... some have the sin of blasphemy, adultery, idolatry.... and self righteousness..

My prayer for the day is that any and all who read this will find peace in Christ alone and not man.... In the book of John, the last chapter, Peter is reconciling with Jesus and getting his orders...John is walking ahead and Peter asks Jesus " what about him???, what's going to happen to him?????  and do you know what Jesus says to Peter?  I'm paraphrasing here " Peter, its none of your business, its between he and me"....
...whoa.......

....and then there is the infamous John 3:16 that EVERYBODY knows..but the follow up verse has always held my heart " He sent his SON , not to condemn the world, but to redeem  it....."

... so who am I , a lowly sinner chosen and saved by God's grace alone to condemn....Don't confuse  this my friends with thinking that if you are  a close friend of mine and are in adultery we're not going to have a talk about it  but if your teen age girl chooses to wear a 2 piece bathsuit... my mouth is shut.... I'm not going to cloud friendships and fellowships with pettiness.

... So now that I have all of you scratching your heads, I'm off to  prepare my day... and pray minute by minute my heart  and mind condition improve....

......my soul finds rest in God alone......

Just a morning at Cary Academy

Horses_005_2Every morning I wake up at 4:30, fix some tea, feed the animals, grab a muffin, get Christopher in gear, put on my "face",and pack a bag for the morning.  I usually make sure Christopher has some breakfast, a snack or two packed and enough water bottles for his morning. Then its a drive to pick up his buddy and Nick.  while the two of them are sleeping in the car and donning headphones with various tunes playing through MP3 players, I am listening to NPR with both hands gripped to the steering wheel trying to keep up with the various 80 mile an hour plus traffic on I85, the Durham Freeway , and I 40.
After an hour plus of white knuckle panic attack, we arrive at Cary Academy   in Cary NC.  The boys join 50 other ball players, both guys and gals, and work themselves to death  with drills.  The focus is not just getting better at the game, but also team work.  These coaches are amazing with the tactics they use to get the players to move as a team, not just  a bunch of individual players.

....I spend the next 2 hours from 7-9 as ME time.  a good thermos of tea or a trip by Starbucks, perhaps another muffin(~smile~), my Bible, a good book, my crochet and a pair of walking shoes( I actually walk in my crocs and I must say my feet haven't hurt so far if I wear socks with them..granted a bit geeky, but it works for me)
...This morning I took my coffee and walked around the campus taking pictures of these really awesome horses.  The are just fabulous and in this one you can just see a hint of the sun coming up over the horizon.  I love things like this, not only the busy colors and patterns, but I also think about the process and am in awe of hte mind who can put the paint to these sort of things... horse collages..brilliant!  I'm not sure where to get one, but I so think I need one in my front yard..they tend to be much to big to swipe like the pink flamingo stage I went through in the mid 70's... so, where does one purchase a fiberglass(???) paintable  horse???

..The first thing I thought of when I saw them was the Horse of a Different Color from the Wizard of Oz....I tried googling a picture of it but couldn't find one
Here is the blip I DID find on it

Horse of a Different Color:

When Dorothy and her friends finally arrive at the Emerald City to see the Wizard of Oz, the doorman is none too willing to let them in. When Dorothy tells him that she was sent by the Good Witch of the North, the doorman asks her to prove it. The Scarecrow chimes in and tells him that Dorothy is wearing the Ruby Slippers that Glinda gave her. The doorman responds by saying, "Oh, so she is! Well, bust my buttons! Why didn't you say that in the first place? That's a horse of a different color! Come on in!" Then Dorothy and her friends are picked up by a cabby in a horse drawn carriage. Dorothy notices that the horse is now a different color than when she first saw it and asks, "What kind of a horse is that? I've never seen a horse like that before!" To which the cabby responds, "No, and never will again, I fancy! There's only one of him, and he's it. He's the Horse of a Different Color you've heard tell about!" MGM used gelatin to dye the Horse of a Different Color its various shades. And, rumor has it that they had a hard time keeping it on because the horse kept trying to lick it off.

Something I did find was this  a list of goofs from the movie... now I HAVE to watch it again ( for like the 50th time in my life..and no, I never get tired of it)...so as soon as I finish this post its off to add it to the Netflix list.  But even more so, Now I have to READ the Wizard, maybe even all 15 books!  I'll see if my library has  this  I'm sure Kate won't mind me taking a little break.

I hope you enjoy the horses... they really really are unique... and if any of you have a clue about the horse, even where one might purchase one if one's husband would allow it in one's woods ( I mean how cool would that be) let me know...

Enjoy the day!..all day long

This was my least favorite
